Three Lochs Medical is the name for the strategic alliance between Strachur Medical Practice and Furnace and Inveraray Medical Practice starting on the 1st of August 2024

The Process

The Furnace and Inveraray Medical Practice will be joining the Three Lochs Medical strategic alliance on the 1st of August 2024.

A strategic alliance is an agreement between two or more independent companies to share resources for mutal benefit.  The Three Lochs Medical strategic alliance is a non-equity alliance.  This means that neither company has invested or transferred any capital in the alliance, but that both companies contribute and co-operate for mutual benefit.  For example, sharing the management load across the two companies.

How did we get here?

On the 16th of January, 2024, Lochgilphead Medical Practice released a letter stating that they were handing back their contract to run Furnace and Inveraray Medical Practice

When GPs hand back an NHS GP service, known as a General Medical Service (GMS) contract, they are usually giving a minimum of three months notice.  During the notice period they continue to be responsible for services at the practice as usual.

The Health Board have run an engagement process with the patients of Inveraray and Furnace.  They have drawn up criteria for the application process for a new GP to apply to run the service.

The Health Board then advertised the practice in the medical press for applicants.  The closing date for applicants to submit a business case was Friday that 7th of June, 2024.

The Health Board held interviews in the second week of June, 2024 and awarded the contract to us.

The new service will start on the 1st of August 2024.
